Melanie Branton's funny, prop-filled poetry show about how English became English. Ages 8 to 108.
Performance poet Melanie Branton traces the history of the English language from the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings to the present day, with comedy, silly props and plenty of audience participation. Along the way she digs into the oddities of spelling and word origins, and does not skip the less proud chapters of the language's multicultural past.
Reviewers have called it wonderfully eccentric and sharply intelligent, and she has a knack for making even shy audience members happy to join in. It is billed for ages 8 to 108. It starts at 7.30pm, with tickets from £10.
