Editorial policy
The standards we hold ourselves to, written down so you can hold us to them as well.

A person checks everything
Nothing publishes itself. Every submitted event and business is read by a human before it appears, usually within a day or two. We would rather have a short list that is true than a long one that is not.
We do not invent anything
If we do not know an event’s price, we do not print a price. If we do not have a photo, we do not use a stock image pretending to be the place. Missing information is left out rather than filled in. We do not publish invented reviews, made-up “local favourite” claims, or AI-generated images passed off as photographs of real places.
Everything is grounded in something real
Our pages are built from our own event and business data, or from a named source we credit and link to. We do not mass-produce generic “top ten things to do” pages, and we do not create a page for a town until we have real listings for it.
We credit our sources
When we pick up an event from a venue, council or tourism site, the listing says so and links back. We would rather send you to the organiser than keep you here. If you run a site we have taken a listing from and you would prefer we did not, tell us and we will remove it.
Money never buys approval
Free listings are free, permanently. Paid placement buys prominence and nothing else: never a listing we would have refused, never a better write-up, never a followed link. Anything paid for is labelled Featured, and affiliate links are disclosed in plain English wherever they appear. The details are in the terms and the cookie policy.
User submissions
Anyone can submit an event or a business free. Submissions are screened for spam, duplicates, broken links and anything misleading or offensive. Links inside user-submitted content are marked rel="ugc nofollow", which tells search engines we are not vouching for them.
Corrections
We get things wrong sometimes. If a listing is inaccurate, out of date, or should not be here, email jim@okapiandco.co.uk and we will correct or remove it. We do not require you to prove you own a business before we will fix an error about it.
Who is responsible
Listings are approved by Jim Chetwode, who runs The West List. There is more about him and why this site exists on the about page.
